Welcome to my home page!

I am Mr. Onate, one of our Resource Specialist (RSP) teachers here at Huntington Park High School. My role on campus is to manage a caseload of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and collaborate with General Education teachers in core subject areas to ensure all students are receiving an inclusive, equitable education. 

 

This is my fifth year serving the HP community, and for the 2025-26 school year, I am mainly working with the 9th and 10th grade classes. More specifically, I am co-teaching English 9 with Mr. Stevens and English 10 with Mr. Sanchez (see right column for specific course schedule). In addition, during lunch, Mrs. Finlay and I co-sponsor our school's Magic: The Gathering club. Previously sponsored by Mr. Kuppersmith, we are continuing the club in his memory to honor his love for the game and dedication to all his students. 

 

Now, a little bit about me! I was born and raised in East Los Angeles and attended LAUSD schools for most of my K-12 education. I am a first-generation graduate from Dartmouth College, where I earned a Bachelor's degree in Italian with a minor in Education in 2021. In June 2022, I obtained my Education Specialist teaching credential at Loyola Marymount University. The following year, I earned my Master's in Urban Education, also from LMU. Currently, I am back in school attending CSU Long Beach to pursue a single-subject credential in Italian and Spanish. My goal is to one day teach a Romance language class and instill a sense of curiosity and passion for foreign languages in my students. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, reading, playing video games, and practicing my Italian language skills.
