About Me

I am Mr. Onate, one of our Resource Specialist (RSP) teachers here at Huntington Park High School. My role on campus is to support students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) access the general curriculum. I manage a caseload of IEPs and collaborate with General Education teachers in core subject areas to ensure all students are receiving an equitable, inclusive education.
 
This is my sixth year serving the HP community, and for the 2026-27 school year, I am co-teaching English 10 with Ms. Solis and Mr. H. Sanchez. In addition, I am also teaching the 10th grade ELA Learning Center. Please refer to the column on the right for my specific course schedule. During lunch, Mrs. Finlay, Mrs. Solis, and I co-sponsor our school's Magic: The Gathering club. Previously sponsored by Mr. Kuppersmith, we have continued the club in his memory to honor his love for the game and dedication to all his students. 
 
I was born and raised in East Los Angeles and attended LAUSD schools for most of my K-12 education. I was the first in my family to attend college, graduating from Dartmouth in 2021 with a Bachelor's degree in Italian and an Education minor. In June 2022, I obtained my Education Specialist teaching credential at Loyola Marymount University. The following year, I earned my Master's in Urban Education (with a concentration in Policy and Administration), also from LMU. Currently, I am pursuing a single-subject credential in Italian and Spanish at CSU Long Beach. I would love to one day teach a Romance language class and instill a sense of curiosity and passion for foreign languages in my students.
 
In my free time, I enjoy traveling, reading, listening to my records, and practicing my language skills.
